Whether you are looking for short or long time rentals, Barcelona is not a cheap city when it comes to accommodation. On average the rent per square meter is 13.70 Euros per month. The most charming yet also the most expensive place to rent a flat is the old town, la Cuitat Vella, where the square meter costs 15.80 Euros on average.

If you are renting a room in a shared flat caculate roughly 350 Euros per month for a single room with window and bills included. Hostels you find plenty in the city and many are situated in the city center. The price drops to 15 Euros if you sleep in a 10-bed dorm and goes up to 35 Euros for a double room.

Hostelworld is simply a large data base that lists nearly all of Barcelona’s youth hostels. It gives you a short intro for each hostel, user ratings and let’s you check availability instantly.

Hotel :: Banys Orientals

Barcelona has thousands of hotels. Most of them charge between 80€ and 180€ per night for a double room. The hotel Banys Orientals however stands out through its pretty interior design, good location (El Born) and moderate prices compared to the quality of the accommodation.

Rooms :: Melon District

Melon District is the name of a brand new housing complex in close proximity to Olé Languages that has been specifically designed for university students. They offer single and double rooms with en suit bathrooms for days (from 50€) and months (from 564€). The kitchen is shared but everyone has their own fridge. Facilities include WiFi, a swimming-pool, a café-restaurant, a gym, and a laundrette.

The col.legi d'administradors de finques is the place to go if you are looking to rent a flat in the city. The flats on offer are on their website but if you go to their office they will compile you a list with flats according to your criteria and often there are some that haven’t yet been published online.

Barcelona’s inner city is filled with bars and restaurants. Generally speaking, Barceloneta is the place to eat Paella, fresh fish and Tapas. Gotico has a little bit of everything from sushi and pizza to tapas and French cuisine tip: Especially in Gothico it is recommended to avoid the touristic places where they charge high prices for low quality). Borne is pretty trendy and many restaurantes offer eclectic, contemporary dishes served with a young, fashionable atmosphere. Maumau Underground is a venue in Poble Sec as well as a website that is especially informative with regards to music and concerts in Barcelona.

BCN Week

BCN Week is Barcelona’s free cultural newsweekly that publishes in English, Spanish and Catalan. Their listings are very selected and focus on alternative events.

ScannerFM

ScannerFM is an online radio station that organises cultural events and collaborates with a wide range of cultural institutions in Barcelona. Their listings calendar is sponsored by the city council – this is why it comes in Catalan, Spanish and English – and lists mainly concerts and music related highlights but also features the one or other contemporary art exhibition and out of the ordinary film screenings.

  • Metro and Bus
    All information about Barcelona’s underground and bus system is available on the TMB’s website. If you plan on using the trains and buses regularly it is advisable to buy a T10 card that is valid for 10 rides (with no temporal limitation) on either the metro or buses.

  • Bicing
    Not long ago Barcelona received a public bike system that allows the subscriber to borrow a bike and ride it for 30 minutes before returning it to any station around the city. Currently it is necessary to register online first and the only option available is a one-year abono. In the near future it will also be possible to regiser for just one week for the price of one Euro.
